Parquetry Floors
CONSIST of strips and blocks of Hardwood, fastened together at edges and on backs, in slabs of convenient size for laying. They are made a solid part of the floor by bemg nailed down to the under floor. They are then finished with Wax or Parquet-Lac so as to heighten the natural beauty of the wood.
They are made beautiful by the contrasting colors of the different woods em- ployed, and the weaving effects produced by changing the direction of the grain in the perfectly made joints.
They have been made after this method in Europe for centuries, and are no experiment.
They are established here and have come to stay.
To those interested, we will mail small sample that they may understand the work we offer.
All prices named are for goods 5-16 inch thick, uncut and measured before laid. Prices for any design 7-8 inch thick \xi\\ be given on application.
We make no charge for plans or estimates furnished, if returned to us.
All our Oak is the Quarter-Cut Whit-e. We use no Plain Sawed or Red Oak.
Parquet Borders and Fields
IT IS to present proper combinations of Borders, with appropriate Fields, that we issue this collection of designs. In correspondence N\'ith us, do not deface or tear
the sheets; simply refer to page or number. The woods named in each pattern are as they are regularly made, and are in stock.
Copy of our regular book of designs, showing other patterns, will be sent on request.
Drawings will be submitted showing changes in Borders or Fields. Borders can be made wider ^^•ith strips to good effect, and plainer Fields of Oak Strips or "Wood Carpet" can be substituted \\here preferred.
When writing for suggestions, it is well to name the color of woods in doors, mantels, furnitvire, etc., that the woods employed in the Border and Field may corre- spond and harmonize in each room.
Some of these Borders are shown herein by cutting the turn to a mitre, \\iiich is the more artistic method. Ho^^'ever, all patterns in borders do not mitre equally well, and for such, or where preferred. Corner Blocks to suit any pattern can be furnished. We make estimate for any pattern of Border to any circle.
All our Oak is the Quarter-Cut White. We use no Plain Sawed or Red Oak.

The Proper Care
WHEN your floors have been finished in proper manner, it is easy to care for them by fol- lowing these rules.
Sweep the floors with a canton-flannel bag, rough side out, tied over a broom. This will catch and re- move all loose dust; will not scratch the finish and saves dusting with a cloth.
When you notice the lustre beginning to leave the finish and dark marks appear, the floor should then be wiped up with a cloth dampened in warm water and if the spots do not then disappear, use a scrub brush lightly.
In using the scrub brush, use a small amount of warm water and ammonia (put a ver.v little ammonia in the water), but never use lye or soap. Do not flood the floor with water, and only scrub as large a spot as can be wdped up quickly with a dry, clean cloth.
After the floor has been well cleaned in this man- ner, applj- a new coat of Wax, same as de- scribed in our directions for Finish.
If you watch your floors carefully, j'ou will find that the average wear on floors re- quires rewaxing about every six months.
This rewaxing protects the under finish, and the dark, worn spots will not appear in doorvvays or where the floor is subject to its hardest wear.
The advantage to the housekeeper of the waxed polished floor over the varnish-rubbed can be plainly understood, as new wax can be applied at any time and not show laps, whereas to clean varnished, rubbed floors in one spot necessitates the cleaning of the entire floor, or some places will show lighter where cleaned, making unsightly spots.
If, from lack of care and attention, your floors are badly worn, they can sometimes be reclaimed by scrub- bing thoroughly with Sapolio and warm water. Use a stiff scrub brush, and scour the finish thoroughly; this will remove all dirt that may be in the finish. Wipe the floors dry and allow all dampness to evaporate, then appl}- another coat of Parquet-Lac, and over this a final coat of Wax.
We have herein endeavored to explain the best manner of caring for Fine Hardwood Floors; should there be any questions not fully understood, we will give your corre- spondence our prompt attention.
